Fitness Testing

Image
Fitness Testing is extremely important to see where you are and where you have been! Many times we have an idea of our ability but we empower ourselves so much more when we have tested ourselves and put the numbers on paper. Also, to mention, it can be a great workout in itself. Test yourself or test with a buddy every 3 or 6 months. For Personal Trainers or Gym/Studios: I recommend hosting free fitness testing every 3 months, allow yourself to meet potential new clients and help people become aware. Offer resources on height-to-waist ratio and why it is important to know your BMI. Let them know their risks and provide resources.

Image
Somewhere down the line of life the majority of people have rationalized that carbohydrates are bad, that they make us fat. Diet fads only perpetuate this conception even more, with popular diets like the Adkins diet that instilled in us to avoid all carbs. Of course we know that if we eat a lot of bread we gain weight quickly too. Carbs rich foods are generally associated with comfort foods too, and so you can see the connection of how the majority concludes that CARBS = WEIGHT GAIN. Cutting carbs is not the answer to long term weight loss. The big problem with our carb intakes is the choice of carbs. Most people love white bread and they love to eat it on an empty stomach, this is the worst to do...yes, when they sit that bread basket on the table to nibble on before the food comes = big no-no. Eat the bread last or with your meal; put the salad in first - bread later. My biggest advice is to stop thinking of food as good or bad and start thinking of it as nutritious or empty...
