Favorite Inpirational Books

Hey guys!

So, one of my goals in 2017 was to read more. And, not only to read more, but to read more books that were beneficial and assisted me in my personal growth and self improvement journey. So, I have been focusing on just that. I have been focusing on books that provide inspiration, motivation, and growth in my life. While I do love me some fiction, I wanted to make sure I was reading non-fictional books that could benefit my life in a positive way.
So, that is what I have been doing over the past few months, and because of that, I wanted to write a post in honor of My favorite Inspirational Books!

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life – Jen Sincero

This was one of the first books I read this year and it is still one of my favorites. It was a breath of fresh air as far as self-help books go. I say that because it is witty, honest, and had me laughing the whole time. Jen Sincero is unique from any other self-help author I have read and I really related to her conversational style and tone throughout the novel. She is very real and honest, and she definetly does not suger coat anything! One of my favorite quotes from the book is:
When you love yourself enough to stand in your truth no matter what the cost, everyone benefits. You start attracting the kinds of things, people, and opportunities, that are in alignment with who you truly are, which is way more fun than hanging out with a bunch of irritating energy suckers.
Such a great read with losts of very useful and honest information. Definetly put it on your must read list and unleash your inner badass.

Adventures for Your Soul: 21 Ways to Transform Your Habits and Reach Your Full Potential – Shannon Kaiser

I loved this read. It was truly motivational from start to finish, and made me what to put it down while reading it so I could go and take action immediately. Something else I loved about the book was that there are actionable questions and exercises throughout, so it truly assists you in your self-improvement journey. The author, Shannon Kaiser, is very realtable and I enjoyed her writing style. There were so many, but one of my favorite quotes from the book were:
Past situations that did not work out can actually help us learn more about ourselves. What if these situations are preparing you for something more aligned with your true self?
SO MANY life lessons and “AH-HA” moments for me while reading this book. I literally highlighted half the book, so I could go back and re-read my favorite parts. I highly recommend it.

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear – Elizabeth Gilbert

If you are a person who needs some inspiration or some motivation to go after your dreams, read this book. Even if you do not consider yourself a “creative person” and your just feeling a bit lost about your journey or your next steps in life, this will provide you with wonderful inspiration. I am an Elizabeth Gilbert fan anyway, and I loved Eat Pray Love, so I knew I would enjoy this book regardless. But, it actually exceeded my expectations. I could not put it down, and it made me feel so inspired and motivated to continue pursuing my passions. My favorite quotes from the book is:
Be brave. Without bravery, you will never know the world as richly as it longs to be know. Without bravery, your life will remain small – far smaller than you probably wanted your life to be.
Big Magic is probably a book I will re-read. I do not do that often with books, but I feel like I could soak up even more inspiration the second time around.

The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are – Brene Brown

Okay, so you pretty much cannot go wrong with any Brene Brown book. She also has Darling Greatly & Rising Strong, which are both amazing books as well.
But, personally, The Gifts of Imperfection is my favorite. The reason being, I have been trying to focus on the whole “Let go of who you think your suppose to be and embrace who you are” thing. If your struggling to let your true self shine through, this book is for you! Favorite quote from the book:
Fitting in is about assessing a situation and becoming who you need to be accepted. Belonging, on the other hand, doesn’t require us to change who we are.
This book primarily looks into perfectionism and vulnerability, so if your struggling in those areas, this is a must read. This book is the starting point to accepting yourself for exactly who you are.

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book) – Don Miguel Ruiz

Okay, so I have wanted to read this book for a while. I bought it two days ago, and will probably finish it today. It is such a inspirational read, and it’s less than 150 pages, so its an easy read as well. But, don’t get me wrong, it is 150 pages of solid and motivational information. So far my favorite quote is:
Just being ourselves is the biggest fear of humans. We have learned to live our lives trying to satisfy other people’s demands. We have learned to live by other people’s points of view because of the fear of not being accepted and of not being good enough for someone else.
This has been a very real, very eye opening read for me so far. I think I will be a dedicating a full post to reviewing this book once I am finished, because there are so many little life lessons to talk about!

You Are Good at Things: A Checklist – Andy Selsberg

I love this little book. I wanted to throw this in because it is such a fun book. It is literally a book filled with checklists, and you go through it and check off what your good at. There are some funny/odd things in the lists, so it makes for a pretty silly time. I wanted this to be in my inspirational book list because sometimes you need a reminder of what your great at in life, and that is what this book provides. A great gift idea as well! Some examples of what you will find on the check lists are: Remembering dreams, pulling all-nighters, finding your car in parking garages and endless lots, treating yourself. What I actually liked to do while going through the check lists, was to check the ones I was good at, and put a little star next to any that I was really terrible at. For example, I have a star next to “returning purchases” because I actually never return ANYTHING! I still have clothes with tags on because I just put off returning them!!!! You can really utilize this book  to make you feel great about yourself, but also for self-development!

Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person – Shonda Rhimes

Okay, total honesty, I have no read this yet! It is on my “to read” list though, because every single review I have read about this book has been positive. Shonda Rhimes walks her readers through her year of facing her fears and gives them a glimpse into her life transformation by simply using the word YES. I tried this this summer, pushing myself to say yes to new adventures as much as possible, and I had an amazing summer because of it. So I am really interested to read this book and explore Shonda’s experience.
This will most likely be my next read. Has anyone read it yet? Let me know what your thought in the comments!!!

The 52 Lists Project: A Year of Weekly Journaling Inspiration – Moorea Seal

Okay, I love this little book and it has been my best friend this year. Basically this is a book filled with list prompts. For example: List all the things that cheer you up, list your favorite places you have been, etc.
This is a great self-reflection and personal development tool. Not to mention, its SO pretty inside. My favorite self-reflection list was “List all the ways you can love yourself more”. That was a challenge but in the end it was a great personal growth opportunity.

So there you have it! My top 8 inspirational books. What are some of your must read inspirational books? Let me know in the comments below!
